Safety centre

Safety is a feature, never an upsell.

Verification, scam protection, reporting and date safety are free for everyone, always.

Verification

Know who you're talking to.

  • Verified phone

Every account is tied to one verified phone number.

  • Selfie liveness

A live selfie is matched to profile photos before anyone can message.

  • 48-hour contact lock

Numbers, links and emails are blocked for a match's first 48 hours.

Moderation

Four layers, and people behind them.

Automated checks catch patterns. Trained people make the calls.

  • Prevent

    • 18+ only, one account per phone number
    • Selfie liveness check before messaging
    • Links and numbers locked for 48 hours
  • Detect

    • Photos screened on upload
    • Messages screened for harassment and scam patterns
    • Known scam photos matched and blocked

    • We cooperate with law enforcement through proper legal channels

Our response targets: critical reports (threats, coercion, anything involving a minor) within 1 hour, day or night. All other reports within 24 hours.

Scam awareness

Romance scams follow a script. Learn it.

Genuine matches won't mind you saying no. If you spot any of these, report it, even if you're not sure.

  • Asks for money, phone credit or gift cards

Travel costs, hospital bills, a stuck payment, a family emergency. Always a no.

  • Pitches an investment

Crypto, forex, “double your money” or a business that needs your capital.

  • Rushes you to WhatsApp or Telegram

Moving off Kindred quickly is the oldest trick. Take your time.

  • Won't video call or meet

Weeks of excuses, a story that keeps changing, or photos that feel too polished.

Never send money to someone you haven't met

Requests for bank or payment-app transfers, crypto, gift cards, mobile credit, 'travel money', hospital bills or emergency help are the most common romance scams. No genuine match will mind you saying no. Report anyone who asks.

Be wary of investment tips

If a match talks about crypto, trading apps, 'double your money' schemes or a business that needs your capital, that's a red flag. Love and investment pitches don't mix.

Stay on Kindred until you're sure

Scammers push to move to WhatsApp, Telegram or other apps quickly, where we can't protect you. That's why links and numbers are blocked for the first 48 hours of a match. Take your time.

Look for the Verified badge

The Verified badge means the person passed our selfie check against their photos. If someone avoids video calls or meeting for weeks, or their story keeps changing, be careful.

First dates

Meeting up, the safe way.

Kindred only suggests public venues for first dates, during the day or early evening.

Safety Share

Once a date is confirmed, send a trusted friend a private link with the venue, time and your match's first name. No photos, no profile, nothing else. The link expires 12 hours after the date.

  • Meet somewhere public, in daylight

For a first date, choose a busy public place like a café, gallery, museum, park or market, ideally in the day or early evening. Kindred's hangout suggestions only include public venues.

  • Get there and back on your own

Arrange your own way there and home, whether that's public transport, a ride-hailing app, a taxi or your own car. Don't accept a pickup from someone you haven't met yet, and keep some battery and data for the trip home.

  • Tell someone you trust

Use Safety Share to send a trusted friend the venue, time and your match's first name. The link expires 12 hours after the date, and you can check in with them when you're home.

  • Keep an eye on your drink

Order your own drinks, watch them being made, and don't leave them unattended. If you feel unwell or unusually dizzy, tell staff immediately and call someone you trust.

  • You can leave at any time

You don't owe anyone a full evening. If something feels off, it's okay to end the date early, ask venue staff for help, or step away and call a friend. Trust your instincts.

How to report

Report in four taps. Block in one.

Report and block are on every profile and in every chat. You never need Plus to use them.

  1. 1

    Open the menu

Tap the ⋯ on their profile or at the top of your chat.

  2. 2

    Choose Report

Pick a reason: scam or money, fake profile, harassment, sexual content, threats, underage, offline behaviour, or other.

  3. 3

    Add evidence

Select the messages that show what happened. Add a note if you want.

  4. 4

    Block if you like

Blocking hides you from each other everywhere, instantly. They aren't told who reported them.

Something happened on a date? You can still report after unmatching. Choose “offline behaviour” in the Safety centre inside the app.

What happens next: a moderator reviews it and may warn, restrict, suspend or ban the account. We'll let you know when your report has been handled.

Emergency

In danger right now? Call for help first.

Kindred is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is at risk, contact local emergency services immediately, then tell us.
